Looking for Clanton Re post of problems with 1973 Envinrude

I apologize for reposting but I really need some help on this one:
Hi guys
I know this topic has come up before. I did a search and found the post from Capt Bob back in April with a similar problem. When I bought the boat and motor 65 hp hydo assist shift model #65373R the powerpack, recifier and # 2 coil were missing( all have been replaced with new parts) I have no spak on any of the cylinders. Did spark test with screwdriver grounded to powerhead. I have diconnected the kill wire from the switch and powerpack still no spark. I diconnected the rectifer as suggested in the earlier still no spark. Performed sensor low ohm test all read 0.02 at 90 degrees. Performed high ohm thest had open between ground and lead. I do not have the S-80 or M-80 that Sealoc calls for. I did diconnect charge coil wires from pack and connected to my meter (it does not have peak hold) I did see voltage go up to about 30 then go to zero.
I know this is a long post just want to give as much infomation as possible. Battery was purchased new in Feb show a 12.96 volt charge. did not do a load test on a new battery.

Where do I go from here any help would be great. This is a great place for infomation.

Hugh h_turner@hotmail.com

The specs for the timer sensor is 7.5-9.5 ohms using black wire as common. The charge coil specs is 879-930 ohms. Some of these engines had a module called a clipper, shape kinda like and old boat pointed at both ends with 2/3 wires, my diagram does not show it, but if it has one disconnect and remove it from engine. You can remove all of the plugs, the engine will spin faster and check spark. if you have good spark with plugs out the sensor has to much air gap.

Clanton
It rained yesterday. I went out today to do the checks on the charge goil and sensors again. Both the charge coil anbd sensor have less than 1 ohm. Pulled the plugs still no spark.

Is it safe to say that the timer base is gone?
I am bidding on one on ebay.

Hugh

I dont like to replace parts, unless I know for sure the part is bad,and I would not replace any outboard ignition part without an output check with peak reading meter. The ohms are out of specs which indicates a bad part, if you trust you meter order the part. The used part you get from e-bay may be as bad as yours, make sure you can return it, if it is bad.

Hi Hugh,
I think that you are using the wrong scale for the voltage readings. Everthing that comes from under the flywheel is AC. Try the voltage readings again on the AC scale, above 200 for the charge coils, and below 5 for the sensors.
If you do decide that the stator is bad let me know, I think that I have one that I'll send you if you will send me the money for the shipping.
E-mail me at janmac@yhti.net

Almost retired again

Thanks for the clarifaction on the voltage. As far as needing the stator I will let you know tommorow aafter I check it again. Is the timer base and stator the same thing?
