Hello all, yes I'm a rookie boat owner as we all were at some time.
I just picked up this what was told to me 1965 Johnson 18hp, strapped to a 1966 Alumicraft 14ft. The hull is in good shape, the motor needed some help.
I got it as "motor and prop won't turn" so after some investigation (I am an ASE certified mechanic so not a rookie to things with gears and spark plugs, but boat motors are new to me) and some good ol' YouTube I found the Lower Unit was seized up. After fixing the lower unit, it operates like a champ, but then trying to start it it ran on 2nd pull...but the top spark plug blew out, looks like the threads were pulled out of the head. So I bought a new head, but I can't find any details of Head torque specs since I can't find my exact model name (ex. big twin, fast twin etc)
I know for sure it says:
Model: FD-19D
Serial number: J2593420
Attached are some pics, it looks way nicer now then it did when I got it, after A LOT of work, I'm proud of my new toy and am wanting to take real good care of her. Any info is helpful, thank you in advance!
