looking for help on removing thermostat from the housing any suggestions.

i have pulled the thermostate housing off and i see the thermostat but i can not get it off the housing. am i missing somthing here. looks like its just held in with a rubber oring?

yes, the oring is all that holds it... beyond that just dirt and corrosion

Yeah. You should be able to just carefully pry it out of there. (replace the O-ring though after you clean it up inside)

If it's stuck so tight that you could distort the t-stat prying it out, you might try using some rust removing gel like Naval Jelly or equivalent

If you do distort the T-stat, you might need a new one.

Obviously, if the housing is so corroded that it won't hold the new stat and O-ring, you need a new one of those too.

I had this same issue. I used a small wire wheel attached to my Dremel tool to clean up the corrosion/rust inside the housing around the thermostat and then was able to pop it out. Once out I continued to clean up the seat. New thermostat and O-ring went in without issue.

thanks for the help I was able to get it out and clean up the rust with a dremel also.
