The 20A fuse for the ignition blew while winterizing the boat last fall. We were running fuel treatment through the fuel lines and engine when after 5-6 minutes the engine just shut off. We looked around and didn't find much when it happened. I bought a service manual and was going through the troubleshooting steps when i found the blown fuse for the ignition. It was fuse number four in the four fuse compartment under the cowl on the front left side of the engine. I am glad I found why it would not start, now I am worried about why it blew, will it blow again, and if so, when? (rhetorical question)

It is a 2005 50HP Mercury four stoke fuel injected outboard, 50ELPTEFI

Thank you for any assistance.

Maybe a wire has rubbed a spot in it that has now shorted out you should probably trace out each wire for the ignition from helm to motor check connections on starter, solenoids and or charging system. Not an expert at all but that’s where I’d start. Good luck
