Re: looking for help with fishfinder/gps combo units

I am looking for this exact advice, only for the Chesapeake Bay region. Same price range.

Hurry! Quick! Wife says I can use my hotel points for this! Soon, she'll change her mind and I'll have to use them on some
porch furniture or some dam thing.

Also, some units have an 's' after the model number, some have 'st' or whatever. Does this have any meaning?
Like maybe the sounder is included?
Is the cable included?

I have a Garmin 178c, same as 431 but older and I love it tells me everything I need to know and more.

You can pick 3 readouts for the top, on the split screen I run most I have voltage speed and time at the top of the screen, it is really cool.

The interface is really easy to work and you don't need a college coarse to work it, it even records top speed, total mileage, time moving, time stopped and top speed and the water temp reading is right on all the time, I love it.

I just purchased a Humminbird 587 ci HD combo for about $460. I love the GPS and the color screen is wonderful. I shows me the fish, but havn't hooked any yet. Seems easy to use.
