I am picking up a 1999 sea ray 180 this week, and when i went to look at it i noticed the hull has some chalky areas, and some dullness to the graphics. Im pretty sure the graphics are in the gelcoat, and the gelcoat is just dull.

The last boat i had (still have, selling it tuesday) was very chalky, and i used some high end automotive wax and my orbital to clean it up. It took a lot of work, but it did help. The problem i noticed was when i got mud on the gunwall, it seemed to stain the hull, like i had somehow taken the coating off.

I looked around here and some other forums, and see the Vaseline ideas, but i want something more permanent.

I looked at the meguires marine stuff, and see wax, oxidation remover, cleaner wax, polish..

Im thinking i need this

and this

I have a nice random orbital buffer, and will pick up some wool bonnets. Do i need anything else? Any tips to this procedure?

When I did my boat it was very bad. I used fine sand paper the buffed it out with meguires diamond cut. Turned out very nice. I would try a small area in an inconspicuous area first to make sure that is what you want to do.. Good luck..

i have not used those products before...so i cant comment......however......the words snake oil come to mind.

you will need a proper compound paste to get rid of the oxidisation ...or....re surface the gellcoat by sanding....

after the paste....a proper gellcoat sealant.gloss....will make it shine for a season or two before a next appilcation.

i use farecla...a lot of people use 3m.
yd might chime in and share the products he uses.....but im sure it iis the 3m.

i have not seen or heard of other pros using meguires.

I've used vaseline on my boat but if you want to use actual waxes and cleaners use the boat specific stuff. Car stuff doesn't have the oils that the boat stuff has which is what helps maintain the gel coat. I just opted to go the easy route route since the weather was way hotter than I wanted to spend time in busting my tail in. I may try wax/buffing when it cools off just to see the difference.

Sir

do a search for
3m products Catalog

I would attach it but the file was too big

It should help with the products and the right pads for each product

You will need a varible speed buffer
