So far I have only seen manuals for years up to 2001, Does anly one know if the engine has changed between 01 and 02 ( only wanting manual for tune-up procedure)

also, Some one had scratched the @#@$#% out of the timing plate on my engine.

Does any one know what are the marking intervals on the plate? it is a sawtooth plate, I can make out that the last marking is 12 degrees, but the rest is scratched really bad.

I can't draw a simple picture to show it!

I was assuming each 'tooth' is 2 degrees, but that puts the first tooth at 2 degrees (which the spec says the timing should be at 2 deg.

Can any one assist me?

Also, I got my engine running again fine, discovered that the rotor has rust on it, cleaned that up and it works! all is good!

Need to replace rotor, Is rusty rotors normal for a 2 year old? ( sits on a lift all summer)

Sorry for all the questions

Happy camper (for now!)

Do you know how to put the distributor into base timing mode? If you don't, then setting the timing to specs will make a poor running engine.
And yes, you need the proper manual for your engine (Mercruiser manual #26) if you are planning on tuning your engine up properly.

Thanks Don.

As as per my other posting about run-on, I will get this manual and do things myself ( Ive lost cofidence in marinas).

From the drawing, I had re-set the timing to 4 degrees (it was at 12)

The engine is now running as it was before, starts OK when cold, I can get up to 44 MPH and the RPMs are around 4500 at full out. has the same pull as originally. ( I can pull 2 skiers now!) :)

Looks like I have to replace the rotor and cap. It was dirty - Perhaps these things should be replaced on a yearly bases!

Thanks again
