Hello all. I'm looking for some info. I've started to tear my transom out, so I need to find out what epoxy is used to sandwhich and coat the the plywood (and where to get it). I would also like to gather some opinions on the liquid roll on deck finishes, what paint to use for the top and bottom, and finally where to get wiring supplies. I'm looking for good products but also as cheap as possible. I had a list compiled from all the posts I've read but now that I'm forced to get started I can't find it. Thanks in advance any info is appreciated.

I found the best value for epoxy was through US composits. It would help us to help you if we knew what your working on.

Re: Looking for material suggestions.

Most Fiberglass boats are built with Polyester Resin. I used Vinylester in my 1961 Elgin
and its holding up great. I'm currently working on a 67 Johnson Surfer and I plan on
using Polyester Resin in the refit I'm replacing the stringers and floor and Ill be using
the 2 part foam to fill in under the deck.

My understanding was that Polyester Resin was less expensive than Vinylester or Epoxy
but now that I'm looking in to using it I'm finding that its 4 X the cost of the Vinylester
I used on my Elgin. I'm still sticking with the Polyester because I was told by a
professional in a restoration class that for repairing a boat Polyester is the way to go.
If your building from scratch Epoxy or Vinylester is fine but for repairs Polyester Resin is
supposedly the deal.

I do know that if you make a repair with Epoxy you can never use Polyester or Vinylester
in that area again Poly and Vinyl will not properly bond with Epoxy I don't know why but
that's what I have heard from several sources.

Re: Looking for material suggestions.

I use epoxy resin from clarkcraft.com on my aluminum boat to seal any wood.

As far as deck coating, I went with Nautolex marine vinyl since it's durable and cleans easily.

Others have been happy with Durabak or Kiwi grip, but they are somewhat pricy.

A cheaper route to take is to sprinkle sand prior to a top coat of paint on the deck to add some grip.

You can use PL to sandwich the ply together, pick it up at Lowes or HD.

Resin and 1 lay up of 1.5 inbetween the ply would be great also.
