I'm thinking of buying an ETEC 115 HO for a 22 ft Bennington with the express (3rd ) tube package. One rep said its closer to 125-130 hp and should be fine for tubing and passengers. Another said I should go to a 150. Any thoughts?

Agree. Get a 150.

Yep. You can always go slower than your motor will allow, but not faster.

Thanks for the advice. The price jump is giving me some heartburn --about $2,800 more. I asked my dealer to price out an ETEC 130HP to see if we can split the difference. Should provide about as much get up and go as the 150.

the 115HO and the 130 are basically the same engine with the same performance. There is a world of difference in performance and acceleration between the 115HO/130 and the V-6 150. With a pontoon boat, being a party barge, you can easily overload or lug a marginal sized outboard when you put 10 people, coolers, and other gear onboard.

As far as power goes, and to rip off one of my Dad's phrases,
"It is better to have it and not need it, that to need it and not have it."
