Looking for Online Manual for 96' Merc 25hp

Hi Guys, Is there an online manual for a 1996 Mercury 25hp outboard? My neighbor has one on a flat bottom fishing boat and the gear shift linkage has come apart for the second time now. The first time it happened, I was able to pry the linkage back into what looked like a nylon block that held the sqaure shift linkage in place. I am looking for an exploded view of the shift mechanism so I can pin point the problem. Thanks for any help that can be given. Dave

I will be watching this thread for a positive response, but so far all I have found are manuals for sale. I did find a good general manual for quite a few motors at the local library...good luck.

Go to the Mercury Marine web site, click on Parts Express, enter the engine serial number and view the parts list. Engine manufacturers spend thousands of dollars preparing service manuals and aren't about to give them away free. The only way you will find a free outboard service manual on-line is if someone took the time to scan one and post it somewhere. Those manuals have hundreds of pages and I can't imagine anyone doing it just to be a nice guy. Besides -- service manuals are copyrighted. Yes -- I know -- the general attitude is "so what!

Thanks for the info. Just know that in the Merc i/o forum, There are SOME manuals available online, didn't know if there are any here. By the way Silvertip, only the first line of your reply was necessary. The rest of the comment was just your way of showing your a.. . Well, there are SOME nice guys here, believe it or not. the seloc manuals are available on cd's now, so sooner or later people will post them. but getting the OEM is the way to go
