Looking for opinions on early 1990's Yamahas?

Hi,

I found a super clean 1990 85hp Yamaha for sale with only about 250 total hours on it. Any thoughts on this engine or Yamahas in general from the early 1990's? Somebody told me that Yamahas pre-dating 1994 were a bad idea, but given the condition of the engine, I think it would be hard to go wrong?

Take it out and run it and if it runs well at all RPM's and the price is good then go for it...I run a 1999 90C Yamaha and it's been perfect since I bought it new. Remember, clean, fresh, stabilized fuel, a fuel/water separator and learn to drain carbs a couple of time a year and you should be home free....a Yamaha Manual for that motor would be a good purchase for you to study and learn...
