I have a lower helm too but it takes longer to get to than the fly bridge.... down the stairs and through the cabin....

We have a 02 280 DA Sundancer. It is very close to the 300 DA in overall size and we find it a comfortable and easy to use boat.

Although growing up I was exposed to the family 36' sailboat, the boats I had in adult life prior to the SR, were all sub 20' outboard boats. Getting used to the larger SR took a little patience and planning but I was successful.

That being said, you might want to run your boating resume past a friendly boat insurance agent. They can advise you if there would be any problem buying insurance. In any event take a CG approved safe boating course. Besides valuable information it will get you a discount on your insurance.
