I have a '57-'58 Crestliner 14' aluminum boat

I have 2 options for OB power.

Option 1, '58 BigTwin 35

option 2, 2 '58 Fastwin 18's

I think dual engines would look cool, and I do use my boat in the Ocean by myself so I like the idea of limping back on 1 engine if I have a problem.

I dont like the idea of an extra 50lbs hanging on the transom, and obviously a single engine is easier to hook up than duals

Performance wise, is there a benefit to duals?

TIA,
Steve

Go for the duals! The problem is that one motor needs to be a counter rotating motor. That may be expensive to accomplish.

will that really be that big a deal on such a small engine?
I could see that being a problem a 200hp

The single motor will be lighter, faster, 1/2 the maintenance and better on gas. Dual motor might give better piece of mind, provided 18HP is enough to bring you home.

Seriously, is that 14 footer up to dual motors, I would not think so.....

What does it need? Seems like enough room for 2 small OB's

Re: Looking for opinions

No compelling reason to consider two motors, but a bunch of reasons not to (twice the maintenance, less performance due to drag, added weight, higher cost of operation, etc.) Only one positive reason I can think of is you can still get home if one fails, maybe).

I had a '70 14' Crestliner aluminum with a '71 Fastwin 18hp. It flew with the 18. That's my vote.......

Re: Looking for opinions

I have 2 johnson 20hp motors on my 15 ft starcraft with a 4 stick control box and dual fuel tanks.

They work well under all conditions.
if one fails you can always get home.

they are both powerful and speedy. My two 20s go 25 mph flat out. and the idle down to 175 rpms for trolling.

And besides they look cool.

cheers

Guess it's all budget dependant as it could work with either config.
