I picked up a 1990 Sunbird 17' bowrider yesterday for $600. Overall in pretty good shape. Transom solid, one small soft spot in the floor, hull in good shape, new back-to-back seats, vinyl in decent shape, mostly just faded and sun-cracked. It's an I/O with an OMC 2.3 engine and a Cobra drive. Not sure if it runs yet, but it cranks good with good compression and the PO said it did run good earlier this year. He, or someone else, bypassed the ballast resistor and burned up the points, so I'm guessing that's at least one good reason why it doesn't run now. The trailer is probably in better shape than the boat, galvanized with good bunks and keel rollers. I'm just looking for opinions about this boat. Good? Bad? From what I've seen so far, it seems pretty well built. Heavy 'glass everywhere, nice paint in the bilge area, definitely solid and heavy! Today my FIL and I removed the seats and carpet and cut out the bad section of floor. The stringers are still fine, so I'm just gonna section in a new piece of floor and glass it in. That and a new piece of carpet, and I should have it running and ready for the water in a couple weeks. I figure if nothing else, it'll make a good family boat for a year or two, then I'll probably sell it and look for something with a cuddy.
