Hey y'all, thanks for having me. I have an old MFG I'm trying to get in the water. It has a 67' evinrude 40hp outboard, model #40752. Looking to get lower unit kits kits and a carb kit, where a good place to look. I've googled and it sends me to eBay, and I don't trust eBay. Thanm you!

The iboats listing only go back as far as 1968. However there isn't any real change between the two yrs, except some trim on the engine cowls, and maybe some differences to the water pump and pipes

Right, it only goes back to 68'. When I search the part number that pops up on eBay, I don't get results. 0381577 - Water Pump Kit. And I don't know part numbers for carb kit. Or lower unit seal kit

Actually using the evinrude option and searching through water pump kits, it only goes back to 81'

18-3083 water pump impeller (only) 1960-70.

You have to go OEM if you want a complete water pump kit.

When installing the lower unit seal kit... I noticed the output shaft seal is tremendously different looking. It has the same OD and ID but the girth/width is different. And the all around design is different. Is this going to work?

Also... On a scale of 1-10 how hard should the clutch dog shifter be able to pass by the bearing and detent spring by hand? Considering I'm having issues shifting in and out of gear.. Is it possible the spring has hardened more than originally and causing it to pass? I literally have to smack the shaft down while holding the clutch dog shifter as if it were a slide hammer in order to get it passed neutral..

They are hard to snap holding it in your hand. Should be a "normal" snap when assembled and using the shifter lever.

The original Chicago Rawhide seal is no longer available. What you got replaces it.

Okay, so with the new seal installed into the housing, it will not sit flush correct? It'll sit farther inside the housing yes?

You might even use it to your advantage, repositioning it to run on an unworn area of the shaft
