Looking for parts by serial number for my old barn find. Lower unit seal kit, etc. All the websites (including this one) dont have a listing for a 71 45 hp...its either 40 or 35 hp. My serial number is 459HA, and it has the Aquadart gearcase. I know a lot of these engines are fairly interchangeable parts wise, but I would like to be sure before ordering something I am not going to be able to use.

Thanks!

If it has the Hydro-Dart or "stump stabber" gearcase it is quite possible that someone has substituted an earlier lower unit because by 71 I am relatively certain they all had the bullet shaped gearcase without a point. AND, The stump stabber gearcase is not swappable on the later model lower unit because it uses a special gasket at the split and the pinion gear and bearing is larger.

The good news is that the propeller bearing gland seal is the same O ring. The prop shaft seal is the same and the shift rod real is the same part for all engines up until Mercury started putting their lower units on the engine--around 92-94 So, You can make a gearcase seal yourself, but do use the correct thickness because this does set the gear lash. The other seals can be ordered from almost any force 50 engine
