Looking for some advice

I'm shopping for a tachometer for my 1980 Merc 50 hp o.b. 4 cyl. Some of the ads state the tach works on 12 pole alternator/stator. How do I tell which alternator/stator I have. Thanks for your help.

All 50 HP or 44c.u. mercury engines are 12 pole alt. which means any tach that says it works on 12 pole or 6 pulse alternators will work

Quicksilver tach's from your local Merc dealer.....$88. Great tach, great buy. Just bought one for the boy-son.
