Depends on a lot of stuff. Are you running setback, jackplate?
What purpose are you using the boat for?
You will need to prop for the purpose, how heavy is your boat, how much hp does your engine produce? Rpms? Present speed, props?
From a stock setup, you should be able to pickup 10+ mph with just some setup changes.

TJ, if she's only getting to 4500 you need to find a prop with 4" less pitch. You'll see a 200 rpm difference per 1" of pitch change. 4" less will bring the engine up to 5300-5400 where it should be at wide open throttle(WOT). I doubt you'll see 10mph increase, but you are quite a ways from being right. My guess on your rig would be 14 1/4" x 15" prop is what you need. You need to let her run up higher, right now at 4500 you are lugging the engine. Can cause all kinds of nasty things to happen. Starting with melting the tops of the alum pistons. Best deal on a SS prop can be had at www.Overtons.com Check the line up of Stiletto props in the size I mentioned.

You'll probably see a 5mph increase considering how wrong you are proped right now. What will impress you is the hole shot speed you'll gain getting it proped right. You will think the boat lost 1000lb when you hit the throttle. Dunk

Re: LOOKING FOR SS PROP FOR 96 150 MERC

Check out E-bay.. They have SST props all the time.. I got a Near new one for my 140HP johnson for UNDER $50 Shipped. (thanks to the guys at frankies' marine) Even the new stuff goes for $100-150.. and these are $300-$400 props. Look under Sports then boating and Power AND General.. then search in that catagory for props. Check both General and Power as catagorys because some sellers only post in one.
Good luck,
Dave
