I was wondering if anyone would be willing to give me suggestions/opinions on what to do. Here is my problem...My parents have a 1982 Chrysler 125 that they got back from the dealer right after memorial day that they brought in there due to it not running right. Come to find out the head gasket was blown and they got it replaced. They then took the boat on a fishing trip and ended up blowing out the base/exhaust (not sure what it is called) gasket. I have decided to take it into my own hands and replace it myslef. I got the power head off the mid section and cleaned it up. I have come across a bigger issue now, I noticed that the engine block is cracked in several locations. My question is is it possible to get those cracks welded, is it worth getting them welded if it is possible or should they just try to get rid of it. The engine is on a 1983 fiberglass Sulvan which was taken care of all its life (Parents are the only owner) so it is still in very nice condition.

Thank you
Ryan

Welcome to iboats.

You can buy a good replacement for a decent price this year.
Certainly easy to justify replacing it.

Some real nice 100-125hp motors on ebay.
Maybe some of them are close to your location.

Cracks in the block are really dependent on the size and location of the cracks. Although with multiple cracks, that would indicate a possible substandard block which will give further problems if it were repaired. I usually recommend repair over replacement however, in this case, pictures or accurate description of crack locations would be desireable before a course of action is recommended.

Then, of course, is your own personal preferences: are you attached to the engine in some way and want to keep it? Or, does replacing it seem like a good idea to you?

Thank you for your responses. I believe that the cracks are due to all the water not getting drained out of the engine over winter and the water freezing. These cracks are under the bottom cylinder and look like they are where the water jackets are. I will try to get some pictures up next week as for the rest of this week I am going to be gone. I think what I am planning on doing is putting it back together and running it until it wont anymore. It ran before we took it apart but the gasket was blown so thats why we took it apart.
