I think I'll go against the grain here. I wouldn't even consider selling a vehicle my wife likes to buy something to tow a boat. I think my first inclination would be to buy an old truck for about $3000 (remember you'll pay more than this on the sales tax for a new car) and use it to tow the boat. I'm thinking mid to late 90's 3/4 ton with 150k miles. I might push the tow rating on the caddy you have and tow it with that, but it's only 3500 with the tow rating. If you're taking short trips I think this might be what I do.
For as often as most people boat, you'll even be money ahead renting a slip or leaving it near the lake and using what you have to tow it the last mile or two.
