hi everyone
i am looking to buy a rubber boat just for everyday practical use or for the kids to mess about in, im trying to get one on the cheap though as budget is tight this month... ive had a quick look on ebay

If your voyages will be limited to calm water (lakes and class I or less) you'll be fine with one of these or comparable. http://www.amazon.com/Intex-Seahawk-II-Boat-Set/dp/B00177J4XO Can't imagine why you'd want second hand when you can buy that for a C note.

Try searching "Inflatable boats" instead of rubber boats.
Cheap boats are made of PVC. (but not all PVC boats are cheap)

If you have a tight budget, you don't want rubber
Hypalon rubber is what the most expensive inflatables are made of. You won't find much new for under $1000 made of rubber.

That said, I bought an old but lightly used Avon rubber inflatable for $400. It's a 1986.
I have used it for quite a few years and it is rated for 15HP. You might consider something like that -your kids will inevitably grow up and get tired of rowing.
