I want to get one for my dad for his retirement. That said, I do not know squat about boats or Century Resorters. I do know my dad loves these boats.

I have found a few online, but I do not know what to look for. What should I be looking for in these boats and what types of questions should I ask the sellers?

Thanks!

There very well made. There all a straight inboard 16' and 17' with small block power up to 260hp and some 18' and all 19' are available with a Chrysler 440 330hp. They all use a nearly bullet proof Velvet Drive transmission. Complete OEM interior kits are available from A&A Marine.

A 17' or 18' will tip the scales ~3500lbs with trailer. Make sure you dad has a tow rig that can handle it.

Welcome to iboats!

DO NOT try to negotiate a deal on your own. You need to find someone who does know boats check out any potential purchase. This could be a certified marine surveyor or a friend. You could even get your father to be your mentor: If you can pull it off, tell him YOU want to buy one of these boats and would like him to help you pick one out. Then, you give it to him. However, this is predicated on two things: 1. He would believe that you have suddenly developed an interest in boating, and 2. Your father knows enough about boats to keep from being taken.

Another thought would be to search out and join a Century owner's club. They could give you lots of pit fall avoidance information - and you just might find a well-cared for or restored example from a member that would be worth buying.

I have found that nearly every boater has at least thought about finding a nice f/g Resorter at some point in their boating carreer.

If the right boat ever comes along, I would have a hard time passing it up. There are some really good deals out there right now. I just can't justify another boat right now.

Good luck in your search.
