Looking to buy my first boat nothing to expensive just want something to go out with the family and friends to ski and tube just have a good time. now i know that a lot of people are going to bash bayliners, so i guess ill be the first. personally i dont mind the looks of them , its just that their previous reputation for horrible quality and lack of care into what they make prevents me from even looking into these boats. I know they have made changes since, but i fell that in order for them to be making such cheap boats, they HAVE to be cutting corners somehwhere. a brand new 2005 boat for only 10,000? anyways, I am biased since i do own a glastron, but you also should look into a glastron MX which is similar in price and style to the bayliner, but they offer a lifetime structural warrenty on the hull, deck, stringers, floor, and transom where as bayliner offers only the hull and deck.

My neighbor just bought that boat. Its seems okay. The only things I didn't like about it was that there was a lot of wood in the bilge that appeared to only be painted, rather than glassed. Thats bad news in the long run. It also didn't have an automatic bilge pump.

I figure there's not a thing wrong with good old fashioned wood in the construction if the mfr is going to give it a lifetime warranty. If it rots, just take it back for warranty repairs. You'll also get a warranty from Mercruiser to cover the powertrain that's the same as any other boat of any brand. A used boat will come with no warranty whatsoever, and for similar features would probably cost the same or more. I'd give this unit some serious consideration, as it appears you are. But I have no firsthand experience with one to offer specific advice. Might be a great starter boat that won't destroy your pocketbook.

I owned a 19ft bayliner Cuddy (1952 capri)(now 192 classic) that I bought new in 1998, and I sold it last year to buy the boat I have now. I had absolutly no problems and I know the person who bought it and there are still no problems. Bayliner's were Junk in the 80's amd early 90's but they have greatly improved the quality. They're a basic high quality boat. but they are light boats and feel the chop. I almost bought a new 242 clasic last year but I found the boat I have now and it was more of my budget. So in my opinion I would buy it especially since it will be your first boat and you know there wont be hiddden troubles like you might find on used boats.

I just bought a 2005 Bayliner 175 for my second boat . I am very pleased with the quality of the product and the price . It is a foot wider and a foot longer than my first boat. It has ample power with the 3 L powerplant and a 4 year warranty I purchased. I find it is very roomy , more so than my older more upscale boat . After stowing all my safety equipment from the old boat I had room to spare .The ski locker is huge and there is a lot of storage space elsewhere. There is no lid on the port side glove compartment so I went to wallyworld and got and small plastic container with a waterproof lid and put my things in there. Of course I got full canvas , fishfinder , float switch on the bilge pump. I looked at other boats in the entry level class but they all seem to have sun pads , a waste of space to me and I prefer the amount of room for passengers . I really don't care about resale as I intend to keep the boat a long time .I wanted a new boat because I will be the one to take care of her so I know she will be kept in prime shape .Go ahead all you Bayliner bashers but I will still have enough money left over to take my annual trips to sunny climes , improve my house and have a few other toys to boot.
