I have a 73. JOhnson 65 Hp outboard with controls. It needs to be replaced due to mechanic issues. I'm talking to a guy who has a 77 70Hp Evinrude for sale. The price seems right. He upgraded his motor to a 90HP and wants to sell this on to help recoup the costs of the upgrade.

My questions are these:

Will the controls I have now work with the later model outboard? I have the Powershift II control box.
He said the compression is 118, 112, and 115 psi (top to bottom). Is this good? Low? Bad?

He says there is a small crack in black plastic on one coil. Is this an issue? Can I use parts of my 65hp?

Any other issues I should be looking for?

yes it will work both models made 1973 in 65 hp came out with manual shift gearboxes a few things were changed like the stator is one of them but the wiring the same ive done it on a 1974 to 1977 , the crack in the coils epoxy then up because the spark jumps out start the motor in the dark & you will see it

So it should be fine as far as controls go? What about the compression?
