Every manufacturer make an express in the 24-25' range.

Not any more. Four Winns smallest is the V275, Rinker's is the 260EC, Monterey is the 250CR, Crownline is the 262CR.
Gone are the FW 248 and 258 Vista, Rinker 242FV and 252FV,Monterey 242CR,Crownline 250CR.

Thanks shrew, much appreciated.

what is the deal lately on iboats?

i've been gone all summer and i come back and the first couple of days there are a bunch of new people being pretty rude. automaticj5 and his regal was ridiculous as well.

man...when i first came to this site...i approached humbly, because i knew that if i wanted some good info from the late sea oracle don or some of you other experienced guys, i should be respectful. hell, how about just being respectful because it's the right thing to do.

try to be nicer, bayliner2252. i asked questions in the past and got some pretty unrelated responses, but i always appreciated that someone took the time to respond AND i sometimes got some good info that i was missing.

Re: Looking to upgrade to a faster cabin cruiser -- advice on brands and models?

Folks,
I recently moved to FL. from MN. where I have a Bayliner 2252 Cuddy. GREAT boat, love it, but top speed with just a driver is 35 and I'd like to move up to a used cabin cruiser that will do at least 45, and is a little bigger for comfort for my wife and I to use for overnighters. I'd consider single or double engines and, in general, 23-27 feet. My price limit is around 25k max. I've been looking at some Regals as they seem to have the power I want but any advice is really appreciated.

Thanks much.

You may want to consider a walk around center console with the cabin below. These will usually have outboards but get you to your requested cruising speed. Think Grady White, Wellcraft, etc...

I have an older Cruisers Rogue 2420 with a warmed over 5.7 liter and VP 290 DP. This would fall under the express/weekender type boat, just a bit larger than what you have currently.

I can hit 50, however cruise most of the time at about 25-30, or idle at about 4-5. I have 13 miles to go from the boat launch to the ICW. each trip out is 60 miles of boating.

Wife likes the slow cruises, or just above planing speed, followed by anchoring and having a great time with friends

My prior boat was a 19' bow rider that would hit 50 as well with a 5.0

While I love the idea of larger cabin and a bigger boat. I really miss my 19' SeaRay for pulling onto the beach and water sports.

However since you just moved here - best advise I can give is to boat for a bit to discover the boating you will actually do down here. Meet up with friends and go out on different boats.

you may end up in a larger cruiser, or you may end up in a 24' deck boat.

Welcome to Florida and Iboats

Scott,
Thanks very much. After the help I've gotten from some of the mebers here coupled with further research I think a 24' or 25' with a 5.7L would fit the bill.

Thanks Silverton,
I've looked at a couple and, while the twin outboards do have the top end the cabins seem kind of cramped, I assume due to the walk around aspect, but I haven't looked at any Grady Whites yet.

Possum,
You've got a good point, just didn't appreciate getting jumped on after I pointed out the unasked for responses. This forum has a nice feature though -- "ignore poster" :)
