I just accepted a 3 month temporary job in Stavanger, Norway. They were getting desperate and I threw out a few demands and I'll be darned if they didnt meet every one of them.

Probably gonna leave middle of this month, will be back in USA for Christmas, and then back there (bringing along the familiy for a short visit) for two more months.

The neat thing about it is that my wife's sister lives in Sweden, and so they can meet up and also her mother might be there too.

Looking forward to boating in some fjords.

Ken

40 - 50 right now; think you can handle it! By Christmas you will be looking at plenty of under zero weather. Make sure you let us know how a boy from TX handles it!

Happy for you! Bit envious as pictures from that part of the world are beautiful! Are you going to be working off shore? Or more inland? Field or office? Had Swedes on our track team - and used to get a few on river trips; liked all I met.

Hope it makes banking $$ for you.

Good luck there KIZ. Sounds like it's a positive move for you... and nice that's only temporary. Something tells me you're going to miss Texas while you're there. :)

Re: Looks like I am heading to Norway

with all due respect, what is the nature of work you do in the oil field? I ask this as prior posts and conversations regarding Union employees, and your position stating that you would not care to be a represented person. I was never clear exactly what you did in your employment in the oil fields.

IE:..you going there as a working laborer, or a white collar job.

Anyhow, have a good time, great experience I do believe.

More of a white collar with a blueish hue. :D

I work in the laboratory but also sometimes go to the rig. I will always work getting my hands dirty, never did care too much for pencil pushing.

Ken

Best of luck in Stavanger - it's a really nice town, on the west coast so it's not so cold but can be very wet and dark in winter. Great summers. Good nightlife, lots of pretty women. Large ex-patriate community, American schools, great scenery & boating in the fjords, not too long a ride by chopper out to the oilfields in the North Sea. It could be a lot of fun for you - but you really ought to prolong the engagement so that you could be there in summer....

Hey! thats cool Kiz, I used to manage an asphalt laboratory. Lots of long days and weekends for me. I quit because I hated it though. It became too boring and redundant.
Hope you enjoy Norway!

Great cod fishing in that fjord.
A platform in the North Sea of Norway in winter feels like hell freezing over.North Western will take on new meaning.
