Looper or Crossflow?

I have a 1977 Evinrude 140 Mod 140735S
How Can I tell if its a crossflow or looper?
Also what Does the S at the end of the Ser number stand for?

Easy.. they didn't make a V4 looper until later..so its a crossflow

The 1977 140hp Evinrude is a crossflow engine.

Visible metal carbs = Crossflow
Hidden plastic carbs = Looper

140735S is a model number, not a serial number. The "S" pertains to a factory run number, not of any significance.
