Can anyone tell me how a looper differs form the normal motor and the advantages or if there are any. I have acted like I know several times and apparently so have others. I asked a guy the other day and he did not know either. This might be a dumb question but I will be a lot smarter after someone gives me the answer. Thanks

Re: Looper What

The way combustion occurs in a looper is much more efficient , then a crossflow.

The looper pushes the fresh charge up one side of the cylinder , and down the other.

Pushing the exhaust gas ahead of it.

Where the crossflow has the exhaust and transfer ports on opposite side of the cylinder.

The piston dome directs the fuel and pushes the exhaust out the opposite side.

Across , thus the name.

Disadvantages are the heavier pistons , higher heat , which is far less efficient..

Mainly due to much poorer scavenging ability then the looper.

Thats why there are very few crossflows built anymore.

I believe there are still some built for other purposes then outboards .

But, I still love mine gas hog or not .LOL

Bill Kelly has a good article on that subject. Copy the following link to your browser without the quotation marks:
