My BF90 started making a unusual noise and discovered the bolt on the fly-wheel was only hand tight and the keyway under the rotor would not fit snug in the slot. The fly-wheel had never been removed in the past ????

Has anyone had this problem. I ordered a new keyway and the dealer advised that I was the first to order this part, they stated that it would take 5-10 days and if back ordered it would have to come from Japan and could take months.

I believe the part number is 90704-ZW1-L00 (key, parallel (4.5x18) Honda code 6556278 price $3.46.
Model number of motor BF90A, serial number BBBL1001017

Maybe a nut/bolt/fastener supply place would carry standard? key stock and just cut it to length. Any machine shop could modify or make that key?

Thanks for reply, will go that route.

What would cause the fly wheel nut to loosen, does the factory normally put locktight on the threads ?

Re: loose flywheel on BF90

I've never heard of one just getting loose on it's own. My guess is that it was never torqued down properly at the factory and just got loose. There's a specific torque amount for that nut that is pretty darn important, should be in the shop manual for that motor. I'm not sure if Loctite is used on those, but I would guess that it may be. I would check with your dealer or get a shop manual regarding torque specs and the Loctite issue, or hopefully one of the mechanic guys on here can provide this information! You can buy a torque wrench or borrow one from a mechanic friend for a one-time use. You're going to be O.K. on this after you get this back like it supposed to be. Good Luck!
