Loose outboard

I have an Evinrude 6hp on the back of a 12 foot alumacraft. I had to replace the transom board due to severe rot. The only way to do that was to get a board that was thinner than the previous one. Now my outboard wont clamp on tightly, even with the clamps all the way down. I need a sure fire way to solve this that wouldn't be too hard. I was thinking about drilling holes in the transom board and permanently mounting the motor to the boat. I would like a less permanent way though, because that would ruin the car-top ability that I got the boat for. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Most of the time you need to use more than one piece of wood to get the correct thickness for the transom, so with just one layer it will be too thin. Bolt another layer of plywood to the transom and you wiil be back to where you were before the repair.

Yep - glue and screw another piece of ply where the motor clamps go. Then you can tighten it and remove it easily.
