I picked up a 1995 70 hp for what I thought was cheap, as I needed to replace my other 70hp beacuase I had no T&T. Guy was selling it due to damaged harness, some of the grounds had melted (looked worse than it was). After fixing the wiring, I was quite surprised to find that the motor started first turn. However I heard a distinct knocking, so I shut it off and went to do comp test (110 70 110). I'm just after tearing down the motor and there is a loose rod cap bolt on the #2 con rod.
Seems like the #2 rod was replaced, as its a different color than the other two.
Walls seem good I can still see crosshatching on 2 of them except on #2, so I'm just wondering would this loose bolt cause the lack of compression ??
