Loose steering on a 200 Yamaha

I've got a 2003 200HP Yamaha HPDI on a 1993 Robalo 21' boat, and the hydraulic steering is awfully loose. It takes literally 6-8 cranks of the wheel to get full deflection left or right. If I want to make a 10 degree heading change, I may need to turn the wheel 3/4 to 1 turn, then the motor catches, and the boat jumps 20-30 degrees. To correct, I'll need to turn the wheel 1-2 turns the opposite direction, and the boat jumps back 20 degrees. I tend to zig zag instead of driving in a straight line. What's going on here? I don't have any experience with steering systems. Cheers.

check your ram, lines and helm for any signs of fluid leak. hydraulic steering fluid is quite often very clear so look carefully. <br />if you have limited knowledge of this system you are far better off taking it too a professional as steering is kinda important.
