Loose wires

I'm getting ready to take my boat out this weekend for a shakedown, and I still have some little things to take care of.

One of them is two loose wires near the rear of the engine. They have eye loops on them, extend maybe 8 inches out of the mercruiser harness that runs across the engine, one is colored gray and one is brown. Like a fool I didn't write down where I took them off, and I can't find them in the multiple wiring diagrams I've looked at.

Does anyone have any idea what these are and where they go? I was thinking maybe the shift interrupter switch, but there are already 2 wires attached on there, although not from the harness.

Re: Loose wires

Sorry, I should know better.

It's my new rapido reman 350, which is a 1982 model Chevy SB. The harness was actually from the previous engine in the boat, a 1982 model Mercruiser 228, however, and I've switched to using a 1 wire alternator instead of the 3 wire that was there.

Thanks,
Erik

Re: Loose wires

The grey should go to the negative side of the coil, I believe for the tach, and if the brown wire doesn't have a white stripe, I believe that would be the tan wire which runs to the water temp sender.

Re: Loose wires

But they're not currently connected, and both the tach and the water temp sender work currently.

I'll see if I can take a pic tonight of the wires I'm talking about and their position. They really are off the rear of the engine, positioned between the coil and the shift interrupter bracket.

The temp sender is at the front of the intake...

Re: Loose wires

That's probably a good guess... I'll have a look after work tonight. I do recall the trim sender not working even though the limit switches did work... I thought it was just old and busted (never worked right before, either).
