Loosing pressure & gas in fuel pump

Hello All,

Recently bought my grandparents boat. It has a 1954 Johnson 5.5 Sea horse outboard motor. I believe its a 1954. The motor is sea green color. We converted 2 line pressurized tank into a vacuum fuel pump. Motor will run in spurts after pouring gas directly into the hose. Followed the instructions that someone posted to set up the timing. Took apart the carberator and cleaned it. If you could help out in anyway it would be greatly appreciated.

We still need to purchase a fuel line assembly with bulb but can't find the right size. Need 1/4 inch attachments. Everything we found is 3/8 or 5/16.

Thanks,
Lien

Welcome to iboats

I cannot see why you couldn't use a 3/8" fuel line and add a 3/8" hose-1/4" threated fitting. It is a pressurized system and the flow should not be effected by restriction cause by the 1/8" reduction.

So, exactly how did you hook up the fuel pump? You know of course that it wasn't made to work with a pump. Did you follow the instructions given in that popular website? A fuel pump requires a push-pull pulse to drive it, not just a vacuum or pressure.

Are you SURE that all hoses are plugged in correctly?

Look at your pump again, the arrows indicate fuel IN from the tank and OUT to the carb, the third hose is the pulse hose to the intake.

You may have the intake and carb hoses reversed.

Double check which arrow goes where.

And you DID plug one of the holes in the intake?

We checked the hoses and plugged one of the holes in the intake. Got her running to where we don't need oars to row. Runs a little rough still. We didn't put in a new carb kit yet. Getting the parts tomorrow and hopefully it will be smoother.

We lost one of the screws for the high speed needle. Do you know where we can get a screw?
