I just acquired an old Apelco Loran C unit model # DXL 6510. I was able to DL the user manual but it doesnt answer my question. I have also searched for hours on the net but cant find a straight answer so I figuered if anyone knew it would be someone here. I want to hook the unit up in my boat so I can check out the great spots that are stored on the unit. I have the unit hooked up and working and also have the coupler mounted, well almost mounted anyway. I need the fiberglass whip antenna that mounts to the coupler. I cant find an antenna specificaly for the Loran C application and was wondering if a VHF or any other type whip antenna would work. Thanks in advance for the help, John

Re: Loran C Question

No, it takes a special antenna, has a large (about 1 1/2 round 6-8inch long pod which is the actual antenna. Maybe time to check second hand marine shops. I doubt if anyone still makes the antenna.
