It was raining here today and it is a holiday here in Canada. I pulled out a 5D14v gale 5hp that I did a minor rebuild on last winter and it just didn't run well last summer. Ran but never purred at low throttle setting and never seemed to make full RPM.

I re-gaped the points, rechecked compression, check synchronization, checked points opening at 180 degrees. Lots of 1/8" spark. New carb kit in 2010 and cleaned it twice last summer with no change. I finished checking and re-gapping the plug and was torquing the plug to 240in/lbs when one of the plugs just didn't feel right. One plug didn't have a seal/washer on it. Grabbed a set of plugs from a CD11 head and tank tested the Gale and Bingo ran like a kitten. Just shows you some times you can miss the simplest of things.

We have all done something like that. If you haven't, then you're lying!

I always chuckle at some of the dumb mistakes I have made.

You guys remember when slick 50 first came out? It was like $50 a bottle. This is where I learned to put the drain plug back in the oil pan before I crawl out from under the car. 4 quarts of oil and a bottle of slick 50 on the ground:(

Yeah.....been there done that!

Now we KNOW that Slick-50 probably works best when poured on the ground anyway!!
