My Johnson 1997 60 hp motor keeps losing its fuel prime. I recently disconnected the oil supply so I can premix the gas and now after about 3 or 4 min the boat stalls out if I dont pump the bulb up. Before this I thought the oil supply was disconnected but was running it with both mix and oil pump and would run for about 45 min and lose all power and run on one cylinder. I was stuck on the river and I changed the plugs and it still ran the same. I brought it home and the next day put the earmuffs on, and it would run strong but smoky. thats when I disconnected the oil pump and it runs clean and strong but loses prime. Please help, thank you.

Re: losing fuel prime

Try pumping the primer bulb and see if it will continue to run, maybe the fuel pump is defective.

Agree. Pump the bulb and see if it keeps going.

Re: losing fuel prime

How old is your primer bulb. Could be the check ball in the primer bulb. If you pump up the bulb and it gets firm it should stay that way if it isnt running untill you release the fuel line.
if you pump the bulb and it dosnt get firm I would think that your carbs are due for an overhaul. | would also make sure you have good spark and good compression.
