I have a 1974 penta 130c. I have started losing oil through the exhaust at a rate of 1 quart every hour of runtime. Any help with helping diagnosing the problem is appreciated.

Check your compression. If you gave a lot of blow-by, it goes out the exhaust

Symptoms are typical of a worn out engine. Cylinder and piston ring issues as Scott mentioned.

Thank you Scott and tpenfield. I will do that. The oil issue started suddenly rather than over a period of time. I was hoping to hear oil cooler or something less expensive than engine rebuild. I'll have compression checked. Thanks again.

Yes, I would do both a compression test and a cylinder leak test as the combination of both tests can indicate the issues to a greater extent.

I had this problem. I found it was the oil cooler/Heat exchanger. It would literally lose a quart in just a few minutes. Is that what yours is doing?
