Did you try marking across the prop and cap to see if it slips?

Drive pin fits in the bronze hub, and there's a rubber slug molded around the hub and the inside of the prop cavity. Or a press-fit into one or the other.

Exactly right jakedaawg. We used to carry short pieces of brass rod to replace ours when we hit a log or rock. Just don't drop the carter key or nut in the water. Easy fix.

I did make a mark on the hub and prop and turned the prop while in gear. The prop slipped the instant I got some torque in it. And the marks were not lined up afterwards. Photos here : https://goo.gl/photos/k2926UzdaaxhRaM76

So do I replace the prop? Is that the simplest thing to do?

Thanks.

might as well buy a nice new prop for it. keep that old one as a ornament in the garage.
or you could drill it and make it solid and keep as just an emergency spare ..

Ok. So the existing prop looks like it's got 8 1/4 X 8 1/2 stamped on it. So I should get the same sized replacement ..... right?
