Hi, 26' Chris, 5.7 L OMC V8 King Cobra, we had just taken her out, and after about 15 mins. she started dropping RPM from 3200 to 2600, and then conked out. It took about 10-15 mins. to restart her in the water. There was a bit of smoke coming from the carburetor. Oil pressure was fine, water temp. was fine, any ideas?

Thanks,

LT

Sounds like you are starving for gas. Check/change water separator, check filter screen at carb for starters. Does it do it every time now, or just that once?......JK

Mine did exactly the same, no over heat and some "smoke" or steam near the spark arrestor (air cleaner in auto terms) coming from the breather tubes. It turned out to be a head gasket. The engine was idling really rough though and tended to stall going in and out of gear.

Thanks guys,

We replaced the fibre screen that sits over the caarb, and this solved the problem. We also replaced the water seperator, and the boat is running very well.

Many thanks,

LT

PS: The head gasket was replaced when we rebuilt the engine.
