We found a 2 man towable tube and 60' rope floating in the lake (Greer's Ferry Higden, Arkansas) so I am doing my due diligence to find the owner. If this is yours describe it to me and I will return it. I know this is the best way since everyone that owns a boat belongs to this forum :) Besides now my conscience will at least know I tried

You ought to be ashamed of yourself trying to get that dishonestly.

To spdracr39: Mine was round and it had 60 feet of line attached to it. No, really!

I would post a picture of it but I have a feeling it would mysteriously not work properly :)

Hey, you removed a hazard to navigation. Imagine the mess that rope would make wrapped around someone's prop.

You and I both know that your concience has nothing to do with this. Don't think I didn't catch that gleeful snicker. If you really wanted to do "due diligance" you would post in the local paper and in several supermarket bulletin boards.

However: Anyone who loses a two man tube with line attached and doesn't know it immediately deserves to lose it permanently.

You are asserting your right of salvage.

Again, if someone comes up to you next season saying that it looks just like one they lost, your correct reply would be: "Can't be. I just bought this one at Cabelas--or name other store--and got a great deal on it because it was used."

No Frank, that wouldn't do a bit of good. Any Arkie knows folks in Higden can't read.:p

Re: Lost and Found

What steps did you haev to take to retrieve it? Such as, a mere detail--when you encountered the tube and rope floating in the lake, was the other end attached to a boat?

I don't know the place, but it seems likely it blew off a dock, rather than out of a boat. Search upwind.

It's also possible that someone stole it from a dock, whatever, and abandoned it at the end of the joy ride. Lots of boat stuff that appears neglected got that way from thievery.

Re: Lost and Found

It wasn't attached to a boat and yes it was near a marina but I trolled the marina and no one was around. It was late in the day and they were closed. I suppose I could call and leave a lost and found message at the dock. Maybe I will do that tomorrow. I already have a tube and don't really need a second one and I would feel better returning it to the owner that lost It.

Got a good laugh reading through the thread ...

Ask the marina if anyone had been looking for one. Maybe even post a "found" flyer on their bulletin board. Use it out on the lake until someone asks, "hey did you find that thing just floating around?" Enjoy it until someone claims it.

Re: Lost and Found

Last weekend as I sat on the deck watching the sunrise, what should hove into view but an empty and drifting paddleboat, pushed across the lake toward me by a stiff breeze. It was obviously going to blow ashore practically at my feet and so I began to mentally deal with the thing.

What to do? How to spread the word to several thousand people in the immediate area that I had found a paddleboat. Post a notice somewhere? Take out an ad in the local paper? Prop it up with a two by four so that anyone surveying the shoreline from afare might recognize it?

By the time I had got of my duff to a) replenish my coffee and b) make my way down to the water's edge to greet my new visitor, some do-gooders in a tinnie scooted out to meet it. They tied it off and towed it to a nearby boat ramp and hauled it up on shore. As good as answer as any I guess, except that the ramp is in a small bay that isn't visible unless you venture into it and around the corner.

There it sat for a week unclaimed. When I was up at the local marina across the lake two days ago I mentioned it to the owner and they immediately said, "Oh yeah - the local golf course lost a paddleboat and was looking for it. I'll tell them where to find it."

It wasn't until last night that it suddenly occurred to me that someone could have fallen out of the thing and drowned. I had just assumed it blew off a dock or something.

Point is - I bet the local marina has heard tell of the loss. Go post a notice or talk to them.

Hey, thats mine! I lost it, and 2 topless models, which were on the tube.
If you can find me 2 topless models, you can keep the tube.

I'm sorry man I think we ran that over the other day. It made a horrible sound getting eaten by the prop and than sunk faster than we could turn around!

Your situational find reminds me of every boat fender I've ever had... In 20 years of boating I've never bought a fender, I just find them floating down the lake and no one around!

Re: Lost and Found

I found an inflatable raft 2 weeks ago, and then lost it on the lake again 2 days later.
