Re: lost folder

Click Start menu
Click Search
Type in file name and search for it.

Re: lost folder

Agree with searching. Maybe you accidentally dragged that folder into another one.

A system restore might get it back for you as well.Ron G

Re: lost folder

Did the search method for folder and files within the folder and found nothing. Also used a file recovery downloaded from web but again found none of my files listed.

Re: lost folder

Go to downloads.com or twocows.com and search for "undelete". I've used Easy Undelete before, seems to work ok.

Re: lost folder

Try using " quick restore" it should be in the restore bar under all programs . You can restore files and settings to a prior date of an automatic backup the computer does .

Go to all programs , accessories , system tools and you should see the restore area then select quick restore , select the last date available prior to loosing the file and run it .

Re: lost folder

Do the search on the entire hard drive and see what you come up with.

That does nothing for folders like the OP has a problem with.

Re: lost folder

If it isn't in the recycle bin, and the files weren't super huge, then it got hidden. Do the search from the C: drive, and use the advanced options to show hidden and system files. I think you have to have supervisor rights to do that.

What's fun is when some jerky (clumsy turkey) moves a major folder on a shared server that a dozen other people are using.

I used to hate MS Windows with a purple passion, but I have discovered that it is job security.

Re: lost folder

Well I went the restore route and thought I was in luck when I checked the C drive and saw the folder had reappeared but it was short lived as when I checked the sub-folders they were empty. No files to be seen. No luck with the undelete or advanced search either. I will just have to say good bye to them. Thank you all for your help.

I did too - until I tried to convert a 'puter to Linux. While I suppose its just fine if you have some programming background and/or don't need to run Windows based applications, its generally a constant fight to get anything to work.

These days, I prefer the evil that I know, to the evil that I'm just not will to figure out!

I like linux for the heavy duty stuff. I usually use Debian, and trim it down to what I need.

Once I set up a Linux server (Mail, or file) and automate the backup systems, set up the windows workstation configuration stuff, and walk away from it, it usually just runs and runs. To the windows users it's a black box with a drive letter, or their pop server, or whatever.

Biggest problem I have is when it finally breaks, I can't remember the root password. I've learned to write it on a sticker and put it on the inside of the side cover.

Re: lost folder

It's on your hard drive unless you changed hard drives since you lost it ...did you try any of the recovery prog since....the small china sounding one is small and quite powerful
Linnex me likes Knoppix live cd new version 6.0 good for mounting Cdrive to recover files and burn to a thumb drive or cd-dvd even with a dead hard drive

Re: lost folder

Yes I tried one of the recovery progs. (PC Inspector File Recovery) and it found thousands dated back to 1980. It would not allow me to select individual files to recover.

Re: lost folder

Mistakenly deleted files by amateurs normally means they are gone. There are specific conditions which allow recovery, deviation from them usually means unrecoverable data.

1: The drive the data was deleted from must not be written to AT ALL
2: Data can only be recovered to a different drive (see #1)

If you only have one partition (on have Drive C: ) and continued to use your computer, the files are likely gone for good. Your Windows swap file and temp files will quickly gobble up any newly available sectors, truncating what would have been intact, recoverable data. Even shutting down Windows can corrupt the deleted data.

For future reference, for anyone who ever wants their deleted data back, Windows Recycle Bin only holds onto smaller files and folders. Over a certain size, it bypasses recycle bin and gets hard deleted. If that happens, unplug your PC (don't press the power button) and bring it to someplace which does file recovery. If you have a 2nd PC, you can place your hard drive in an external USB drive enclosure and use the 2nd PC to run recovery utilities, but be sure you wish to risk your data, as it is very easy to corrupt deleted data, especially with some of the willy-nilly recovery utilities out there. As for utilities, I use Easy Recovery Pro and Recovery Studio. Both are not meant for beginners, but can be used if you read the help thoroughly.

Also for future reference, if you ever lose photos on your SD (or any camera card), Recuva (spelled like that) is a great beginner utility to recover files directly from the card. I used it recently when my camera corrupted some vacation photos. Got all but one photo back with relative ease.

Re: lost folder

Lowkee, thankyou, thankyou, thankyou. I just downloaded and ran the Recuva program and it WORKED !!!!

I've had a camera card that became corrupted over a year ago. Camera wouldn't read it, card readers couldn't read it and I thought my photos were lost. I've kept the card just in case there was some means of recovery. There were some very important photos that I am SO happy to have back.

Thank you again. That program rocks.
