let us know what u find. make sure to check around river bends and any rocks or stumps that might have caught the motor and stopped it from floating down stream. good luck

Re: Lost motor in river !!!!!!!

Was with a buddy when we hit something submerged, 9.8 rude flipped off the tramson, and was gone in 20' of saltwater. He immediately sited something on land for a mental locator. Came back 4 days later, anchored upriver, as the tide was kick'in. After moving the anchor 4 times, and drifting back,we used a window weight for a locator, and we found it, and pulled it up with a grappling hook. Motor had gone over running, removed the plugs, carb, placed it in freshwater for 2 weeks, pulled it out, used compressed air as a dryer, and pulled the rope several times. Then sprayed it down with marvel mystery oil. Two days later, and reassembly, she cranked and ran for another 6 yrs, until it was stolen. Great motor!

B O A T bring on another thousand

Try tying a milk jug to rope, then at the depth of water your searching tie a good heavy weight. To the weight tie another rope and from there attach another weight 25-30' out and leave enuogh rope to drag the second weight on bottum. Drop the weighted jug line in as close to were the motor should be then move out 25' r so and drop the othe weight, start a circular patern around the jug. If there is anything of the motor stiking up it sould snag the rope. if you find this way enough wraps with the rope you may be able to bring the motor up.
Good luck.

Guess what? I just lost my 4 hp kicker too!!!
I had made a mount to attach to my bowrider's ski ladder and was just testing it out...WACK! The mount broke and down it went! I went diving for it, but the water is so darn murky that you can't see more than two feet! I know approximately where it is within a 75 foot circle in 8 feet of water.

I feel really dumb having read this post long before and not having tied a darn safety rope to the motor! Fortunately, I had only paid $250.00 for it...

Still it's a darn shame losing it. It worked really well (1980 Evinrude 4hp)... maybe I'll go out today again for a swim.

Well, did you ever find it? If I lost mine in the river I go out on, I hope the fish and other creatures make it a nice home because there would be no way of getting to it at all, unless I hired a diving team. I would be afraid to even see what I pull up with a magnet in my river! But this thread just makes me think of how many boat motors there are underwater right now in the United States. lol

just wondering why u guys dont use a safety cable alot of small outboards have and eye let to attach a chain or steel cable to then to your transom. i did this to help stop theft but i can see now that it might save my motor from going over board
