Lost my 'CD Format' program - HELP

My desktop took a dump last December so I took it to be repaired. When I bought this computer I ordered Norton Ghost, which is supposed to automatically backup the hard drive.

Anyway, the place determined that my hard drive was toast but were able to recover all my files. They told me the Norton Ghost was essentially a second hard drive, so based on their recommendation I had them reconfigure it as my primary drive.

The computer works just fine now, but I've lost the ability to format CD's. Can anyone tell me how I can add this program to my computer? I have to use another computer to format discs and that sucks!
The computer is a Dell Dimension E510 running Windows XP.
I'm not too bright with these computer things, so hopefully it'll be an easy fix!

What you mean?? your cd burning program is not in your list of programs ...or the cd's are not being reconized in the cd player

Usually the CD utilities shipped with a computer will be a name program, like Roxio, or Nero, but limited to the particular hardware that shipped with the computer.

If it has the original CD writer in it, you can go to the Dell website and order a system install CD that will have that program on it. Cost is about twenty bucks or so, and it takes a couple of weeks.

Alternately, you can go to your local big box store and buy a copy of Nero or Roxio and install it. It will run your drive, and it has more and neater features than the OEM version.

If you do that, look over programs on the start list, and also the control panel install and remove programs page and remove any vestiges of the old drivers.

hope it helps

I can't find CD formatting anywhere- I've done multiple searches, looked at my program files, and nothing.....
After using another computer to format a new disc, my computer will download files into it just fine.

Why do you have to format a CD? Blank cd's are ready to use out of the box.
I have never formatted a cd in my life and have burnt hundreds.

Are you using Rewritable CD's?

My guess is he is using the term "format" but actuially means "burn".
In which case he needs a new disc manager app like Nero etc.
