I've been away this last two weeks. On April 30, I lost my very first fishing buddy, my beloved mother passed away at the age of 81. Although we'll miss her terribly, and our hearts ache, we are taking comfort in knowing she's suffering no more. Born and raised in the country, she loved to fish and enjoyed the outdoors. She taught me how to clean fish and dress and cook wild game when I was young. She was my hero and mentor, friend and confidante, teacher and role model.

Sorry for your loss. The heart ache will lessen with time, but the memories will always be there.

Sure sounds like your fishing buddy was a great woman. You were very fortunate to be mothered by her, and her legacy will live on in those that you have shared her lessons with. I'm sorry that she is gone, but she obviously lives on in spirit . . . Awesome!!

Sounds like you had a truly great Mom, Holdimhook. You are fortunate.

We all lose them eventually but we all have memories, some more treasured than others, that we can carry forever.

Most people I have known that managed to pass 80 were ready to go. I am certain that both of my parents (84 and 89) were glad when their time finally came. They both told me that they would be.

Every year on the anniversary of our Mom's birth my surviving siblings and I join in tribute and raise our glasses to her memory. That is a day we share stories of our Mom with one another and with our own descendants. This is how we ensure her immortality. She would have been 96 this year. Dad would have been 100.

I think your Mom deserves as much and that such a tradition would ease the pain and renew the joy.

Talk to your children about their Grandma, and your own grandbuddies if/when you have them. She will come back to life in your tales.

Sorry about your loss and sounds like she was a woman after my own heart. women who love the outdoors are a rare breed. She is still with you. the best thing for me when my bestfrind passed away is I jotted down every memory that popped up. this summer I'm going to write them down in a book and give to her daughter. It does take time to heal and there is no written law of grieving. It has been 4 months now and I still cry for her. Take your time and if you need a friend to talk to we will all be here for you
Serenity
