Re: Lost my tape measure

Try this one on for size: We have three cordless phones in our house (all on the same line). One day, after taking care of various chores around the house I noticed that the handset in the office wasn't on it's charger. Thinking I had laid it down somewhere, I pushed the "locator" button on the base station.

The high pitched beep, beep, beep started and I started going from room to room trying to locate the area where the sound was coming from. Tried the kitchen. Nope not there. Went to the living room. Nope, not there either. Next, to both bedrooms still no luck. Looked in the den. Struck out there too. Ditto in the laundry room. Even went out on the front porch and that's when I noticed that regardless of where I was, the volume of the sound never changed. That's also when I realized that the missing phone was in my shirt pocket.

There is no truth to the rumor that one's mental faculties tend to deteriorate with age.

Re: Lost my tape measure

I buy tape measures and utility knives all the time. I'm waiting for the day I move- I know I'll find about a hundred of each somewhere....

Tape measures I don't have a problem with. Although I have been known to occasionally misplace one for a short time. Utility knives are another matter. I think they somehow dematerialize when I'm not looking. Or, maybe the manufacturers of those things have a squad of burglars that go from house to house, stealing them so we will be forced to buy new ones every time we want to cut something.

Isn't it funny how you always find things in the last place you look?
Obviously because once you've found it, you don't have to look at any more places hence you found it in the last place you looked. ;)

I told my kids they could use my tools anytime as long as they put it back where they found it. My tools are now under lock & key:rolleyes:

Re: Lost my tape measure

I have 3 tape measures-my good on I hide, one I let the wife use and one I use when I can't remember where I hid my good one.
Once a friend helped me build a 6' high concrete block wall. Before we topped it off we dropped a good tape measure down inside the blocks. Still there.
My brother-in-law was paneling a big room back when paneling was the thing to do. Got all done, looked real nice. Somewhere in those walls is a nice 4' level, had no idea where we left it when we were done. Years from now someone will find it.
It sometimes works the other way, found a nice wrench and screwdriver in melting snowbank...along with about $800.00 in checks made out to a recently broken into store. After trial cops gave me tools to keep.

Re: Lost my tape measure

My son has never touched a tape measure that he hasn't destroyed. This started at age 4, and he's 6 now. His record is 40 seconds. In 40 seconds he had a 10' tape measure broken into 5 pieces (I didn't know it had 5 pieces) without the aid of any tools. And there was a bolt holding the case together, but somehow that didn't stop him!

So i don't have any tape measures to lose!

LMAO ...your son sounds like he's well on his way to being my next mechanic ...

Re: Lost my tape measure

I understand the tape measure thing.......

We have always kept a tape measure in the top kitchen drawer with the knives for over 20 years!!
That and a roll of insulating tape.

Always needed. Always there. No stress.

Don't ya just hate guys that always seem to have their collective "stuff" together?...*smirk*. I spent 7 months in Duabi in '09 ...NOT exactly a nice place to be in July/Aug. I have never experienced heat and humidity like that in my entire life, but it was pretty neat going to the mall and seeing the ski hill. If you ever have the opportunity to stop in at Shan Yue Jewellery in the Gold Mall at the gold souk, tell Vivienne that "Handsome Rob" says hi. She'll know who you mean.

One of our local hardwares were cleaning out some stock years ago and they had 25x1 lufkin tapes on sale for $5 a piece so I bought 10 of them. Whithin a year I couldnt find a single one. I'm glad that at least my bad day made someone's day better. Anyone else ever put the milk back with the other cereal and the cereal in the fridge?

My wife takes insulin, keeps it in the fridge (duh) and the syringes in a bucket on top of said fridge. Stops to take her shot last thing before she leaves in the morning, and always running late, of course. So where does the insulin wind up? In the bucket, naturally.

Re: Lost my tape measure

I have left a 1/2 dozen hand tools in furniture that I upholster. I'll set down a pair of dykes or a staple puller (or screwdriver, or whatever) on the inside framework and go do something else for a minute. I'll come back and close up the upholstery, sealing the tool inside for the next guy to find 10 years down the road.

But let me tell you of some of the 'personal' things I have found in other people's furniture....you would be amazed at what people let fall into their couches and chairs....

Re: Lost my tape measure

The fastest way to find a lost item is to go and buy a replacement. Immediately when you get home from the store , the lost item will be on the kitchen table, laying on top of a bright orange piece of paper, with a spotlight shining on it and a neon arrow suspended from the ceiling pointing directly at it. It will most likely be giving off an audible signal as well...:confused:;):):D

I know that feeling, was recently working on a washdown system in my boat.Got everything together to finish and can't find the new switch.Looked everyplace I had been and still didn't find it so I robbed one from my fishing boat that was not being used.Completed the wiring and switch install, cleaned up my stuff and as I'm putting the cover back on,there is the stupid switch sitting on the trim tab! I remember now,
