You have to use a strap wrench or some other tool to hold the flywheel while you unscrew the nut. I don't know how your flywheel looks, so i can't give you an exact solution.

Or you can pull a plug out and feed some small diameter rope into the cylinder. Then turn the flywheel to snug the piston up against the rope in the cylinder. Then loosen/remove the flywheel nut with the right sized wrench. Always works for me.

The rope does work but occasionally gets stuck.
Some times you can put a large screw driver between the nut and a bolt screwed into one of the puller holes I usually use a softer bolt so it will bend and not snap off.Keep the screwdriver as low as possible on the screw.Apply it to the nut after you put the socket in place.

ok got the fly wheel nut off. The fly wheel is the keyed in style, how the devil does it come off? (the flywheel). I have worked on motors all of my life and this darn thing has got me fumbuzzled.

Too slow on the drawing. You need a puller to get the flywheel off. A harmonic balancer puller from the auto parts store will work. NEVER use a puller that grabs the outside rim of the flywheel. ALWAYS use only high strength grade-8 bolts. On your motor, screw them in 7/16" no more and no less. Then give it heck. Don't be timid, it WILL come off with a sudden pop when you pull hard enough. If the puller breaks, you bought too cheap a puller.

When you get around to putting it back together, make sure the flywheel and shaft tapers are clean and dry and torque that nut to 40-45 ft/lbs for a 5hp. using a torque wrench. No more and no less.

Tighten the puller bolt as it gets real tight if nothing happens.
hit it (the centerbolt) with a hammer ,good solid whack or 2 then tighten again and repeat.Usually a couple of times and it will pop loose.I leave the flywheel nut on loose to protect the threads.
