What Happend? I went for a boat ride about 15 min. shut motor off,was hard to restart and would die when shifted to gear. 1990 GT-100 V-4 crossflow model# VJ100SLESB I took the cover off the motor and the timming advance linkage had come loose from the throttle arm. I put everything back but now at WOT I only get 3400 RPMs. before was 5400. What did i or didnt i do? Please any info would Help. Thanks.

Welcome db's

With the motor off and the key off, rotate your throttle to wide open. Check to see if the butterfly throttle plates in your carbs are all horizontal, and also check if your timing advance is all the way advanced to the hard stop. This will give us an idea if your reassembly was successful. Return the throttle to neutral (idle) and see if the throttle plates are FULLY closed and the timing has returned fully to the stop. Post your results and we'll go from there.
Good luck

All plates are horizontal but the timming advance was not going all the way to hard stop. plates are fully closed at neutral but timming didnt return to hard stop. I better get back to work on it. Thanks Ill get back to you.

At WOT I adjusted the linkage so it goes to the stop. When brought back to neutral it only returns 3/4 the way. At neutral I adjusted all the way to stop then went full throttle, it will not go to the stop. Is it supose to go all the way to hard stop at full throttle, and then all the way back to hard stop at neutral?

Disconnect the throttle cable and manually move the throttle arm. Tell us what happens then.

Disconnected throttle cable and moved by hand. the piece that the cable hooks TO has moved all the way to the WOT stop screw. There is another arm right behind this that the timing advance hooks to and i can still push it forward 1/2 to 3/4 inch. Is this drawn forward under power by the vacum and not with linkage?

A complete sync and link is in order. Manual gives step by step procedure.
Try www.theoutboardwizard.com for manual.
Sounds like you lost the adjustment when the linkage came apart. manual will also show proper linkage arrangement.
Good luck
