I have a 96 saltwater Johnson I'm at port o Conner rt now . Put boat in water running good . Went about 1 mile at half speed all the sudden lost power and bogged down and died. I restarted Motor applied gas it bogged and died again. Restarted gAve it just a little gas and it kept running but running rough. Limped back to dock.
It hard to crank and dies at idel. I just put 30 gallons of gas in it . Any suggestions on getting it going . I have a tool bag with me.

My 110 did the same thing just two weeks ago---
Top carb was a little stopped up- don't take much (to stop one up).

You may have gotten some bad gas. Do you have a good quality water separating filter in the boat now?

If so, try dumping it out or putting a new one in. Might not be a bad idea to add some Marine Stabil too. That should help if its a water in the gas issue. if the carbs are plugged with dirt, that wont help. You will need to tear them down and clean.

Ok I got more info now . Last time I started motor it had a water stream pee stream . When I raised the rpm to keep it running pee stream disappeared and seemed to be blowing air till it slow down then pee stream reappeared . I took it to local tech he said two cylinders had lost compression and VRO had a small crack in it but he could not be positive what really happend. I'm looking for options on what caused this .

Head gasket is bad, could be from over heating, hopfully there's no other damage. check everything that has to do with the cooling system.

What did he say is actually wrong with it??

It can have the symptoms you described and still be in good shape, or it can be a mess.

He said only that it had low compression in 2 cylinders and and small crack in vro . He couldn't say for sure what happend . No overheat alarm sounded . I felt the pee stream it felt Luke warm. He also said the crack my have starved the cylinder s of fuel causing them to run lean so they didn't have enough lubrcation. He said this was his best guess

I'm heading home today broken boat in tow. When I get there I would like to test the the over heat alarm to see if it failed to warn me of an over heat problem. What's the best way to test this alarm?

There is a brown wire going to each head, ground that wire to the block and the alarm should sound.

The only way to tell what may be wrong is to take the head off, look for a blown head gasket and scored cylinders.

Im still looking for what caused the problem. I noticed when i squeeze the fuel bulb a small amount fuel comes out of thr VRO and bulb never gets really firm is this normal. it gathers on top of VRO but Im having trouble seeing where it coming from . could this be the crack the tech talked about . I cant see a crack? Should VRO sound an alarm if its leaking or sucking air?

Run a compression check on it to find which cyls are bad. Then pull the head and let us know what you find. Could be just a blown head gasket.
