Re: Lost spark

also did you remember to turn the key "ON" for the test?? will not buzz with key off. and make sure you ground the harness side of the wire if you unplug it, not the sensor side.

Re: Lost spark

ok well did the compression test and here is what i found.
top cylinder 145
middle cylinder 90
bottom cylinder 145

Yeh I know them numbers suck. I yanked the head off of her and found a blown head gasket ":D THANK GOODNESS :D" I grabbed my shop light and looked down into all three cylinders and they all look great no scoring what so ever.:D I am pretty sure that I have found the problem. Gonna order me a new head gasket and all new bolts and throw er back together. " Man I was really scared of what I was going to find when I was taking that last head bolt off " and yes I had the key on when I tested that sensor wire and nothing happened. Thanks for all the support you guys have given me so far.
Any thing else you guys can think of on what else I need to do to this baby please let me know.

Re: Lost spark

Well I have bad news. I got my head redone and put a new head gasket on and torqued it all down to 20 foot lbs. did a another compression test and now I have 130 top, 75 middle, and 130 bottom. I put a low comression head gasket in it but the readings are still screwed. It runs in the driveway in the ears but when I put my hand over the middle carb the motor does not change. So I guess I have a dang heavy boat ancor huh. I live in central IL and if anyone needs some parts I have a lot of them. Or if any one has some good ideas on what try next please feel free to drop your info in here for me.

Re: Lost spark

did you get your head resurfaced?? could be warped from over heat. is the paint flakey?? when head was off did pistons look ok?? also head gasket does need to be seated by running motor to proper temp, but you have a large vary in between..not really good.

Re: Lost spark

I see it's been a while, did you ever solve the problem? One thing I did notice is that you torqued the head down to 20 ft/lbs without stepping it, these motors can be fussy about that.....especially if you didn't start from the center cylinder working in an outward circular motion. Keep us posted as to what happened.
